Seven new (100 passenger capacity) ferry vessels fitted with fauna friendly devices, are deployed on the main ferry routes in Assam since September 2021. The remaining 13 vessels that are under construction are expected to be delivered by June 2023. As part of the incentive scheme (Jibondinga) targeted to improve the condition and safety of country boats, more than 200 vessels have been upgraded with modern engine and gear box systems for enhanced safety. The civil works tender for the first ferry terminal development in South Guwahati is awaiting approval.
