The associated Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) are now in final stages of completion and clearances. The Livelihoods program has been very successful as is the robust feedback and grievance redressal mechanism and rollout of public awareness for schools, communities, and children in Kabwe. All of ZEMA activities are satisfactorily progressing. The lead testing and treatment campaign in Kabwe has recently resumed after a 3 month hiatus following a global recall of lead-care test-kits in September 2021. While the PDO remains critical and relevant, the rating for Progress towards achievement of PDO is being downgraded to Moderately Unsatisfactory (MU) as it is unlikely that project will meet its objectives unless the project closing date is extended beyond June 30, 2022. 12/29/2021 Page 1 of 6 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Zambia - Mining and Environmental Remediation and Improvement Project (P154683) The rating for Implementation Performance remains as MU. The mission recognizes the many externalities affecting project implementation but it is also noted that many of the above delays can be managed by more attention to timelines and deadlines, improved contract management, and faster decision making. . The Bank is awaiting a re-confirmation by the new administration at GRZ on the restructuring request received earlier, which included a 24-month extension and cancellation of US$ 2.55million.
