The following progress is reported as at last mission on selected components:  Implementation of the livelihood component remains satisfactory with 123, 904 (56% being women) farmers reached with agricultural assets or services against a target of 160,000 farmers. Additionally, thanks to the strong collaboration between the project staff, district forest officers and the communities, the Community Forest Management (CFM) component continues to progress successfully with 2,879 people (13% females) out of the targeted 8,200 people participating in the CFMs and Natural Forest Regeneration groups. Generally, the project is advised to document changes in the quality of life of grant beneficiaries to complement current narrative on project achievements.  It was clear to the team that some communities now have an enhanced understanding of the link between diversified resilient livelihoods and the recovery of degraded production landscapes. Building on the positive performance of livelihood-related activities, the World Bank 6/17/2022 Page 1 of 8 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Transforming Landscapes for Resilience and Development in Zambia (P164764) team has invited and encouraged the project teams, and all involved in the implementation of the project activities to strengthen the message to support behavioral change and a transition to more sustainable crop and pastoral production practices in already vulnerable and degraded production landscapes. The mission guided the project team to make use of mechanisms in the design of the project to continue engaging different partners, including beneficiary communities so ensure the successes of livelihood activities are accompanied by meaningful improvement in the management of natural resources in the project’s catchment area.  With the coming in of the new government in August 2021, there are new stakeholders in most offices at national, provincial and district levels working and engaging on the project. The mission agreed that reengagement is important, and this should be done soon to support project implementation. In addition, to support quality and regular community engagement, the mission agreed that the project would make use of the Service Providers that are engaged in all provinces to support the community engagement component.  The team will continue to provide support to the government to ensure effective project implementation and ensure the implementation of the project is conducted within the outlined Government of Zambia Ministry of Health COVID 19 guidelines as well as good practices. The mission has discussed and agreed consideration to revise the 1.06-million-ha target of the indicator “Forest area brought under management plans (hectare),” the target may be unrealistic. For example, at the end 2021, only about 0.26 million ha are identified. It was agreed that (i) identify with more accuracy Comments: the realistic potential for land area to become CFMAs and establish a near-final list of CFMGs and (ii) design a simple quantitative indicator that measures CFMGs progress toward the objectives of their CFMAs. In addition, the 4 selected national parks would contribute about 0.75 million hectares to the forest landscape management indicator provided their score of management effectiveness increases by more than 5%. At the mid-term review, the indicator may be revised to reflect this. Intermediate Results Indicators by Components Component 1.
