Compared with December 2/24/2021 Page 1 of 7 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Egypt National Railways Restructuring Project (P101103) 2019, where physical completion stood at 38 percent, project implementation has remarkably advanced whereby physical completion has reached 66.2 percent. These results were the outcome of close engagement between the Project Management Unit, the consultant Systra and the signaling upgrade contractors Thales and Alstom as all parties became better aligned towards making a leapfrog in implementation despite the adverse impacts induced by the Covid-19 pandemic. As the full implementation of the signaling component of the ENRRP was not achieved before the closing date of the ENRRP loan, the remaining works have been agreed to be transferred to a new World Bank-financed project: the Railway Improvement and Safety for Egypt [RISE] Project, currently under preparation. The Bank team is preparing the Implementation Completion and Results Report for the ENRRP. The ENR is also preparing its own implementation completion report.
