At mid-term, more than 34% of sample SHG households have reported to have added one or more additional source of income, 6/30/2020 Page 1 of 8 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Bihar Transformative Development Project (P159576) reflecting project’s success in diversifying livelihoods. 34% sample SHG households have reported income increase of more than 30%. More than 17.5 lakh SHG members have access to household sanitation facilities and there have been positive differences in maternal and child dietary diversity among program participant households. The project has made significant progress in scaling up higher order economic interventions include Farmer Producer Organizations.  Community institutions have leveraged over USD 540 million from formal financial institution. Despite COVID-19 related disruptions during the crucial month of March 2020, the project has registered impressive growth in SHG Bank Linkage. More than 850 SHG women are providing doorstep banking services as Bank Sakhis, facilitating average monthly transactions of approximately USD 20 million. These Bank Sakhis have played a vital role in supporting banking transactions and availability of small cash during nationwide lockdowns in wake of COVID-19 pandemic.  All 6 new Farmer Producer Companies have been operational during the COVID-19 pandemic and have been supporting market linkage for small farmers through aggregation as well as direct retail. Several FPCs have initiated doorstep delivery of fresh farm produce during lockdowns and are integrating these innovations as part of mainstream business operations as the new normal.  The project is implementing livestock interventions in Goatery, Poultry and Dairy with nearly 32,000 women members. Fee based service delivery models are being developed in these sectors and 160 women members have been trained as Pashu Sakhis to provide livestock support services to improve feeding practices and reduce mortality.  The project has swiftly built upon its initial success in community enterprises in food services and retail, opening 10 new Rural Retail Shops since last mission. System strengthening initiatives including digital integration and book-keeping have been undertaken. As part of scale up, 100 new Didi Ki Rasoi have been planned as community managed food enterprises of various sizes. JEEViKA institutional platform has been at the forefront of community led response to COVID pandemic. SHG group enterprises have made nearly 1.5 million face masks and have extended convergence with several line departments to ensure availability of masks at local level. The programme anchored survey of nearly 2.4 million rural households in a span of two months, identifying more than 7 lakh new beneficiaries to be brought under NFSM. As part of social protection measures, the project has extended universal provision of Vulnerability Reduction Fund to all Village Organizations. Furthermore, group enterprises like Rural Retail Marts and Didi Ki Rasoi have been vital in extending key services during lockdowns. Custom Hiring Centres and tool banks at village level have been used to address scarcity of larger mechanization equipment and FPOs are supporting small farmers to undertake sale of farm produce.
