This restructuring includes an extension of the project closing date from April 30, 2021 to April 28, 2023 to allow for the completion of delayed works on Bogia-Awar and Epo-Kerema. The end-targets of the results indicators were also adjusted corresponding to the inclusion of these two roads works. 5/26/2021 Page 1 of 6 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report PNG Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Project II (P119471) The project is on-track to achieve its Development Objectives. With the completion of Bogia/Awar and Epo/Kerema road works, four out of the five results indicators will be fully achieved, which include: (i) increased provision of roads with good condition and safety; (ii) increased female participation in economic activities; (iii) increased private sector involvement in road maintenance; and (iv) strengthened institutional capacity in PNG for road maintenance. Despite the travel restrictions due to COVID-19, the Hiritano Highway rehabilitation under Output-and Performance-Based Road Contracts (OPRC) and East Cape Road upgrade to seal were completed at the end of April 2021. The contracts for the two new road works on Bogia-Awar and Epo- Kerema are being reviewed by the GoPNG before contract award, which is expected to happen around mid-June. The periodic maintenance on Hiritano Highway, under OPRC, will continue during the extended project implementation.
