SUMMARY OF PROJECT STATUS AND PROPOSED CHANGES The World Bank Multipurpose Disaster Shelter Project (P146464) This restructuring paper seeks approval for a 15-month closing date extension of the Project to December 31, 2021. The extension is required to complete project activities given delays during implementation. The main reason for slow progress was delays in procurement processes and approvals, which have now been resolved. The Government of Bangladesh submitted a closing date extension request on January 6, 2020. With this proposed extension, the project will be able to complete activities and achieve its development objective. Ongoing construction of multipurpose disaster shelters is progressing well, with good quality, and good safeguards compliance. Commitments stand at 50% and disbursements are at 48.9%. The major issue affecting progress is the delay in procurement of six packages for 306 new shelters. The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) approved these packages and they will be signed within February 2020. This will take the project to 100% commitment. Of the 250 shelters under construction, physical progress is 65% with 36 shelters already completed covering over 184,000 people, and the remaining are scheduled to be completed by June 2020. All planned rehabilitation works of 450 shelters are currently under implementation and work in 215 shelters is complete. II.
