In total, thirty-seven out of fifty-six total approved grants have closed. 3. Two grants were approved in the quarter: ï‚· A second grant for Vietnam, of $13 million, was approved on May 31, 2011; ï‚· A supplemental grant for Myanmar, of $0.37 million was approved on May 20, 2011 increasing the grant amount to $1.7 million. The amendment was signed on June 16, 2011. 4. Grant closing dates have been extended for ten grants that were scheduled to close by June 30, 2011. The new grant closing dates are: September 30, 2011 for Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, 3    and Vietnam; August 31, 2011 for Belize, Morocco, Regional MNA, Syria, and Tunisia; and October 31, 2011 for Nicaragua. 5. Regions reported four grants in the pipeline; three grants focused on AHI Control and Prepa- redness are under preparation in China ($1 million), Mongolia ($3 million), and Sri Lanka ($5 million), and preparations of a grant for Regional Epidemiology Training is underway in Europe and Central Asia (ECA) region ($1.8 million). 6. A detailed grant pipeline is presented in Annex 3. IV. Grant Disbursements 7. The cumulative disbursement percentage stood at 55 percent on June 30, 2011, $63 million out of grant approvals (net of 5% administration fee) of $115.4 million. Two approvals await grant agreement signature: the second Vietnam grant that has been approved in the quarter, and the South Asia Region grant that has been approved on December 2010. 9. The portfolio in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Region continues to experience implementation delays, resulting in negligible disbursements, due to on-going political crisis in the region. 10. The Morocco grant has not yet begun disbursement; extension of the closing date is planned. 11. Ten grants had no additional disbursement in the quarter: Armenia, Bhutan, Cameroon, Egypt, Kyrgyz Republic, Lao PDR, South Asia Regional, Syria, Uganda, and Yemen. 12. The remaining financially active grants disbursed $4.4 million in the quarter. Table 2 shows net disbursements by region in the last four quarters. 4    Table 2 Quarterly Disbursements by Region (excluding global grants) ($000) Net Amount Disbursed During the Quarter 2010: 3rd Qtr. 2010: 4th Qtr. 2011 1st Qtr. 2011 2nd Qtr. Major disbursements in terms of volume during the quarter were as follows; Vietnam ($0.8 million), Regional ECA ($0.8 million), Sri Lanka ($0.4 million), China ($0.3 million), West Bank & Gaza ($0.3 million). 15. Table 3 shows cumulative disbursements by region over time. Additionally Annex 2 contains two charts on regions; Chart1 provides cumulative regional breakdown of approvals and disbursements as of June 30, 2011, Chart 2 provides regional breakdown of disbursements within the quarter. These disbursements financed vital programs to control avian influenza and other zoonoses and to improve human health systems’ responses to these threats. Better collaboration between animal health and human health systems, which is a strong feature of the programs supported by AHIF, underlines the importance of One Health approaches in tackling zoonotic diseases.
