The training manual titled “Manuel de formation en épidémiologie d’intervention des agents de santé des pays d’Afrique de l’Ouest”, and the guide titled “Guide du formateur en épidémiologie d’intervention des agents de santé des pays d’Afrique de l’Ouest” have been revised and adapted to the specificities of ECOWAS countries. The documents will be translated into English and Portuguese. Page 1 of 5 The World Bank Report No: ISR16886 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): CDC held a stakeholder workshop in Ouagadougou, from Sep 22 – 24, 2014 with participants from the 8 Francophone ECOWAS countries to discuss the FELTP (Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program) implementation arrangements. The purpose of the meeting was to make important decisions regarding the operation of the Program, including: trainees’ selection criteria; internship placement; field supervisors and mentors identification; career plans for graduates; countries Public Disclosure Copy contribution to the implementation and sustainability of the program. All the countries were represented except Mali. A schedule was proposed for the selection of students and the recruitment of all program staff before December 31 for the training to start early January 2015 The University of Oslo (UiO): The UiO has reached an advanced stage with the development of the regional data warehouse (housed at WAHO headquarters). Technical teams from UiO, and WAHO have been visiting the ECOWAS countries to support national Disease Surveillance units to train them on reporting routinely into the data warehouse. As a result completeness of reporting into the data warehouse has improved significantly. University of Ghana (UiG): The UiG has registered 13 residents, 10 of which are sponsored by the WARDS project and from the following countries: Gambia (3), Liberia (3) and Ghana (4). An orientation workshop for this eighth FELTP cohort was organized in Accra on October 8th, 2014. This provided opportunity to review the program planning for WAHO sponsored residents. World Health Organization (WHO): WHO has commenced assessment of countries on their level of implementation of the International Health Regulations (IHR). Gambia has been completed. Assessment in Senegal has started and will be completed by the end of October 2014. Fondation Merieux: Laboratory training activities will commence late October 2014 with a situation analysis and the identification of training sites.
