Results from the 2nd round of early grade reading assessment (EGRA) and early grade math assessment (EGMA) have shown marked improvements in literacy and numeracy skills of Grade 2 students compared to Grade 1 students. Enumerators were trained for the third and last round of EGRA and EGMA, which is currently scheduled for February/March 2018. Training for teachers and principals/school heads is on track, and activities related to the performance management system have been successfully completed. Schools have started using the enhanced School Report Cards (SRCs), which show positive initial results but also reveal the need for additional support to schools during SRC preparation. Training on the financial management and operations manual has been completed and the Bank is in the process of reviewing evidence that one finance and one administrative staff from each region and division were able to benefit from the training, which would complete activities related to this component as well. Lastly, DepEd has submitted to the Bank a program review of its school-based feeding program to meet the requirements of DLI 10.3. Nevertheless, delays in making progress on the information systems to better capture data on children from disadvantaged groups are concerning given the upcoming August 31, 2018 closing date. A time-bound action plan is expected to provide a sense of feasible next steps before project closing.
