The sanitation interventions focus on behavior changes that have enabled communities to adopt sanitation awareness and hand washing campaigns, improve sanitation facilities and programs in schools, and become open defecation free. Since January 2014, the Bank-funded additional financing has been implemented nation-wide in 218 districts spread throughout 32 provinces. The initiative to strengthen district BPSPAMS (Badan Pengelola Sistem Pelayanan Air Public Disclosure Copy Minum dan Sanitasi/village level water supply and sanitation management board) associations also started in 2014, and specific interventions are being created including intensive programs for 10 selected associations. The interventions are focusing on increasing district association capacity to enable them to provide long term support for village level boards. On April 30, 2014, DFAT (Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, formerly AusAid) Additional Financing of US$44 million was approved to support additional technical assistance for the overall project outcomes through substantial capacity building, including for the sanitation component (Component 1) and technical assistance (Component 3) for the parent project as well as contributing directly to an increase in the core village grant activities (Component 2). Currently, the financing profile is nearly $100 million from IBRD, supplemented by an Australian Aid (through DFAT) grant of $44 million approved on April 30, 2014 and $114 million from the Government of Indonesia and local communities. The mission will focus on reviewing the implementation quality of the CY 2013 and 2014 villages, including quality of technical assistance provided for the Project; reviewing the MIS data validity and quality; and pre-assessment of the preparation of PAMSIMAS 3 to respond to the GOI target of 100% water and sanitation access by 2019 (universal access).
