73396 IDA Credit to the Tanzania Urban Local Strengthening Program SUMMARY OF DISCUSSION∗ Meeting of the Executive Directors October 23, 2012 Executive Directors approved a credit in the amount of SDR 167.6 million (US$255 million equivalent) to the United Republic of Tanzania for the Urban Local Government Strengthening Program on the payment terms and conditions set out in the President’s Memorandum (IDA/R2012-0241). Directors welcomed the use of the Program for Results lending instrument, noting this was the first time it will be utilized in the Africa region and in the urban sector. Given Tanzania’s rapid urbanization, Directors highlighted the importance of the program’s success and welcomed the plans for independent verification of the disbursement linked indicators. Directors also called for the replication of the project in other African countries experiencing urbanization problems. Directors emphasized the need for sustained capacity building. They stressed the need for close monitoring, as well as strong public participation and beneficiary feedback, to ensure the success of the Program.
