Leakage detection and repair of transmission mains and reservoirs, resulting in 266 cu.m. per day of potable water saved to-date, already substantially exceeding the Project target of 190 cu.m. per day saved; 2. Completed rainwater harvesting systems in Banaba, and six systems in four villages in North Tarawa, providing 4.7 cu.m. of potable water per day (toward the Project target of 5.1 cu.m. per day above the baseline); 3. Shoreline protection works on South Tarawa combined with the mangrove planting activity that has been completed in 9 outer islands have resulted in 1.18 kilometers of coastline protected, vis-à-vis the Project target of 1.2 kilometers; 4. In addition, 26.8km of the 30-km long water transmission main (From Betio to Bonriki) have been assessed and all leaks have been repaired. Around 300 completed applications to the Resilience Fund (RF) have been received from community groups on the outer islands (130+) and South Tarawa (130+), for small grants to undertake community-based resilience strengthening measures. The large number of grant applications received are currently being screened for completeness and eligibility (against the approved criteria in the RF Operational Guidelines), and are under evaluation by the RF Operating Committee. Strong community engagement efforts by the Implementing Agencies, as facilitated by the PMU’s Community Engagement Team (CET), continue to provide inputs to inform the design of many of the works and lay the foundations for long term operations, maintenance and sustainability of the assets.
