The signing of the loan agreement took place in Baghdad on March 2, 2014. The loan is expected to become effective upon submittal of theLegal Opinion within 90 days from the loan signing. The pre-qualification of contractors for the main works contracts in the Southern Iraq (on Expressway No. 1) has been launched with invitations to bid expected to be issued end March 2014. Similarly, the selection of the consultants to supervise the works has been launched with contracts award expected in April 2014. The Environmental and Social Impact Page 1 of 5 The World Bank Report No: ISR13467 Assessment for the North-South Transport Corridor (road section between Girsheen and Suheila intersection in KRG) has been launched with expected results end of March 2014. Similarly, the preliminary design has been prepared with final design expected end March 2014. Finally, the cofinancing agreement between the Government of Iraq and the Islamic Development Bank is expected to be signed by end March 2014. within 90 days from the signing of the legal agreement (March 2, 2014). The State Commission for Roads and Bridges (SCRB) in Baghdad and General Directorate for Roads and Bridges (GDRB) in Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) will contract consultants in the areas of procurement, environment and social safeguards, and engineering to strengthen their teams' in project management. Similarly, both road agencies will contract technical including safeguards auditors to strengthen their teams monitoring capacity through on the job training. The auditors will also carryout six monthly audits to ensure full compliance with the articles of the signed contracts. Restructuring History There has been no restructuring to date.
