Key achievements during this reporting period include,  Fisheries Information System (SAMAKIS) can now operate on any device (desktop or laptop, tablet, Smartphone, IPAD, etc.) with access to the internet. A virtual workshop was held to discuss the Draft reports. The research draft and progress reports are already used to inform decision making at the ministry level.  To date, five Beach Management Unit offices (Zingibari, Kipumbwi, Sudi, Dunda and Sadaan) are 100% complete and handed over to the communities. The Wet Lab in Kunduchi has also been completed. ========== Mozambique (March 2021): Implementation of SWIOFish1-MZ has improved significantly since the Mid-Term Review in September 2018. Key achievements since the September 2020 mission include: (i) the formal approval of the management plans for the main fisheries defined for the project; (ii) the significant improvement in the licensing of artisanal fishing gear in 2020 (13,361 gears licensed vis-à-vis 5,674 in 2019); (iii) the approval of the model co-management agreement - one of the key co-management tools; (iv) and very encouraging results by window 2 of beneficiaries of the Mais Peixe Sustentável Matching Grants Scheme; (v) substantial increase in the number of inspections (almost tripled) from 2019 to 2020, leading to a much higher number of subtracted illegal gear; and (vi) the inauguration of a fish market constructed by the Project in Pebane district, Zambézia, in late March. The World Bank will continue to support the fisheries sector in Mozambique through two new multi-sector operations expected to be approved by the Board in June - (i) Sustainable Rural Economy Program; and (ii) Northern Mozambique Rural Resilience Project. The design of these operations have built on successes, identified needs, and key institutional developments enabled SWIOFish1MZ, including, among others: (i) the establishment of the ProAzul Fund as a key institution for brokering partnerships between Government, private sector, civil society and communities; (ii) the promotion of local fisheries co-management and new related regulations; and (iii) the successful piloting of the Mais Peixe Sustentável Matching Grants Scheme.. ========== Comoros (March 2021): Despite the Covid-19 outbreak, the project continues to make progress, including with a disbursment rate of 100% of the IDA Grant. The main results include (i) the promulgation of the new Fisheries law on 1st April 2020, as well as seventeen related implementation texts; (ii) fisheries infrastructures have been completed including cold-chain infrastructures and connected to the grid; (iii) six comanagement agreements being implemented with seasonal fisheries closure; (v) 2430 octopus pots have been installed in the villages covered by the co-management agreements, as well as 9 fish-concentrating devices; (vi) 1680 motorized fishing vessels have been registered (v) the third statistics bulletin has been published and a dashboard was developed and publicize online (http://www.comorespeche.org/index.php/statistiques/15-services-des-statistiques/47-page- 2). Key decisions: (i) because of the insufficient budget, a downsizing of the team has to be undertaken to ensure proper implementation of priority activities (ii) similarly activiies will have to be prioritize for the last 3 months of implementation. ========== Regional (May 2021): progress on the sustainable financing mechanism for the SWIOFC needs to be made during the next few months, in particular with a firm decision from the SWIOFC member.
