During the perid 1983-85, most indebted LDC's undertook major adjustment efforts in order to achieve trade balance surpluses aimed at "repaying their debt." In Latin America, the results have been, on average, remarkably successful. Cumulated over the three years, the ten major Latin American countries have achieved a resource balance surplus in the vicinity of $100 billion.
