SUMMARY OF PROJECT STATUS AND PROPOSED CHANGES The World Bank Burkina Faso Donsin Transport Infrastructure Project (P120960) The proposed Project Development Objective (PDO) is to improve road access to the Donsin area to facilitate its development as a transport hub for greater Ouagadougou. The Credit in the amount of US$85 million was approved on May 16, 2013 and the Financing Agreement was signed on June 13, 2013. The project is scheduled to close on June 30, 2018 and the PDO rating as per May 2, 2018 ISR as well as the IP are Moderately Satisfactory. The project implementation is significantly advanced. The credit disbursement ratio is 89.78% with a commitment of 99%.The Bank team has been engaged proactively with the clients, aiming at finalization of main project activities before the project closing date of June 30, 2018. Such engagement enabled the full completion of the rural roads (39 km) and a substantial completion of the paved roads. As of June 13, 2018, about 42 km out of 49 km of linear paved road are completed, with the remaining seven in an advanced stage of execution. However, contrary to the client’s assurances and agreed planning with the contractor, during the last mission of May 2018, it had become clear to the Bank team that the remaining works including installation of road safety equipment (vertical and horizontal signaling, speed bumps, etc.) would not be fully completed by the closing date of June 30, 2018. To enable the completion of works as well as small but important additional works for the communities along the road (e.g. a shed for women’s market), the client requested the extension of the project closing date. The client also believes that the project extension would enable the government to eventually select a private operator of the future Donsin airport under the ongoing technical assistance contract financed by the IDA credit.
