The Project is implemented by the Uganda Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Sports (MoESTS), with the World Bank acting as Grant Agent. The grant was approved by the GPE Board in August 2013 and the project declared effective on March 24, 2015. Project’s achievement to date include: completion of training for P1 and P2 teachers in 29 districts; providing training, support supervision and primers to more than three thousand teachers. First newly constructed schools are being commissioned. The project has been restructured to further enhance implementation performance (restructuring finalized in March 2018) and project completion date was extended to June 30, 2019. The results framework was reviewed and selected indicators and targets were modified to reflect current implementation status. At the time of compiling this report, over 60 percent of grant proceeds have been disbursed. Implementation is slow, especially in procurement. The task team in collaboration with development partners continues to provide the necessary technical support to various implementing departments so that the project catches up with the planned activities for the realization of its development objectives.
