Background of the project Being a province in rM,ountainous area of North-East of Vietnam, Bac Giang is surrounded by Lang Son and Thai Nguyen Provinces in the North, Quang Ninh province in the East, Bac Ninh and Hal Duong province in the South, Hanoi in the west. The province has founded since 1895 with the natural area of 3,822km2, accounting for 1.2 % of the whole country. As the statistic of 2002 its population was 1,534,900 with average density 398 people/km2 spreading in 10 districts, in which Bac Giang town is the provincial capital as well as the centre of politic, economy and culture a separate ii unicipality Bac Giang is not far from the red river, but does not actually touch it. Approximately a third of Bac Giang's land is dedicated to agriculture. Increasingly, the province is becoming known as a producer of fruit, particularly pineapples and litchis, around a quarter of its land area is devoted to forestry As a resLilt, the average income per head has gradually increased by 5 %. Locating in a convenient situation with its available labour force and plentiful natural resources it has therefore, increasingly developed and gradually transferred to the mechanism of industries trades and services As such, the demand of additional charge in the province has gone up ceaselessly, estimation for 2004 is 16MW, and its annual growth shall be increase by 15% Having awared its master role in Vietnam's modernization and industrialization process particularly to the capital's neighbouring provinces, The Electricity of Vietnam made its own decision to get used of the World Bank financial resource from saving cost of the Transmission and Distribution Project (Rehabilitation and Expansion of distribution system of Vinh and Ha Long) to invest into The Cau Go 110kV transmission line and substation (credit No 3034- VN) in Bac Giang province The Cau Go 110kV transmission line and substation is to provide sufficient electricity minimize losses to 504 Kiii with the population of 260,000 in two districts Yen The and Lang Giang in Bac Giang provinces 2.
