The quantity of waste collected and disposed based on independent audited weighbridge data by September 30, 2020 was 366,727 tons against the target of 240,000 tons, while the number of people with access to regular waste collection under the project during the same time period was 764,016 against the target of 600,000. Weighbridges at the three facilities (two transfer stations and Whein Town landfill) were refurbished including upgrading of the solar power supply and the facilities are now functional. Ground water testing and monitoring in Whein Town landfill and at the new Cheesemanburg landfill site have continued every quarter. A draft environmental and social audit report for the two transfer stations and the existing landfill was submitted for the bank review. Physical progress of the construction of the perimeter wall at the Whein Town landfill is at 75%. Institutional capacity has been enhanced through additional staff and consultants and training in monitoring and evaluation. A project website to improve communications has been finalized and will become operational in November 2020.
