It was signed by the World Bank and the Government of Burundi on June 18, 2018. The BEGLP is expected to become effective on September 17, 2018, and close on September 15, 2023. The objective of the Project is to improve student learning and progression in early grades in Burundi and, in the event of an Eligible Crisis or Emergency, to provide immediate and effective response to said Eligible Crisis or Emergency. The SC and PTMC are expected to be set up by Aug 31st. The PIM expected to be finalized by mid September.  Recruitment of technical assistance to support the development of textbooks and other learning materials for grade 1 is currently underway. The activities are expected to begin mid-September.  The Project Facilitation Unit is expected to be recruited shortly and will facilitate project implementation.
