It is expected that the remaining activities will be completed before the closing date of July 31, 2017. As originally designed at project appraisal, the project has successfully supported Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports (MoEYS) to strengthen the foundations of pre-school education for the 3-5 age group, and improve the access to and quality of education for many disadvantaged and vulnerable populations. The interventions supported by the project components have led to the production of various standards, technical guidelines and manuals related to ECE, primary/secondary scholarships, school leadership training, school health program, Early Grade Reading and Mathematics Assessments (EGRA/EGMA), financial management, and community school construction, which have been adopted by MoEYS and related agencies. Moreover, the Ministry have taken over some of these programs already using their own national budget, or plan to budget them after the project closes. Thus, the project has clearly increased the capacity of MoEYS officials and strengthened the education sector system to continue delivering these services effectively. The project continues to show strong collaboration between MoEYS and the Bank. The MoEYS technical teams, in consultation with the Bank team, have completed several key steps to advance the project implementation. The Project Management Committee, Project Management Team and relevant departments in the MoEYS have created strong and well-functioning component technical teams to lead the project implementation. Transparency and accountability have continued to feature strongly in all project activities, and the government has complied with all legal covenants to date.
