The CSP was approved in June 2020 and became effective in August 2020. The implementing agency has made significant progress during the first months of implementation, completing the project’s staffing and institutional setup; finalizing operational procedures; making contact with all communities located in the Corridor of Influence of the CASA-1000 Transmission Line, 66 percent of which are in Khyber District; and starting preparatory activities in about 45 percent of the project communities. Although there was a delay in hiring the Social Mobilization Partners and the Monitoring and Evaluation firm, the PMU has taken proactive steps to minimize the adverse impacts of these delays. 4/29/2021 Page 1 of 10 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Pakistan Community Support Project (CASA-1000) (P151075) The disbursement rate is 12 percent (US$ 1.8 million out of US$ 15 million). A significant increase is expected in 6 months, considering the nature of project activities that will make payments to implementing partners and vendors during the civil works. Due to the short project implementation period, activities need to be expedited to ensure completion by the closing date of the Pakistan Multi-Donor Trust Fund (June 2022). Key Decisions include the following. The project will pilot “goodwill” schemes to rehabilitate existing schools or health facilities in selected communities along the CASA-1000 Corridor of Influence in order to earn the confidence and collaboration of communities where previous experience with community-driven development has been limited. All small infrastructure schemes financed by project will be approved by the Sub- Project Review and Approval Committee (SPRAC) according to the process outlined in the Project Agreement (PA). In terms of project management, the PMU will open two additional Designated Accounts (DAs) in response to a request from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and the Economic Affairs Division (EAD) to link the project's existing DA with only one of the project grants (TF0B2589). These new DAs will each be linked with the other two grants (TF0B2594, TF0B2595). Finally, the project will fill the only remaining vacant staff position by hiring a community-driven development specialist. These activities are expected to be completed by June 30, 2021.
