The project is implemented according the original design with some simplifications done on the operation manual and slight adaptation of criteria. Thus, the success of the project will rely on the quality of the feasibility studies. During the preparation of the first generation of subprojects, the supervision team of the WB/FAO has had a lot of interaction with the PIU to discuss and improve the studies. The Bank hired a resident hydraulic engineer to enhance its support for the new subprojects to analyze and to monitor the impacts of the works and other technical assistance on field. 2- Specific status about implementation of Spanish co-financing : The situation of the subprojects financed by the Spanish cofinancing is the following: (i) Palmar Grande (Province of Carchi): contract for work has been adjudicated ; (ii) The feasibility studies of Huaquer (Carchi) y General Plaza (Manabí) are under final technical revision; and (iii) Sucuso (Chimborazo) is under revision as the farmers needs to substitute some agricultural practices (pesticides) in order to turn the subproject eligible. The activities related to these 4 subprojects (work, supervision) add up USD 0.9 m that should be disbursed in calendar year 2017. In addition to the financing of sub-projects, the Spanish fund the hiring of technical staffs in Zone 1 (Provinces of Esmeraldas, Carchi, Imbabura and Sucumbios) and Zone 3 (Provinces of Pastaza, Cotopaxi, Tungurahua and Chimborazo). The AECID is also is charge of the implementation of the Latin America Investment Facility (Euro 8 million donation from European Union) . The agreement between AECID and European Commission has been signed on December 8, 2016. A meeting of the Steering Committee created for this donation has taken place in Quito during the last supervision mission. the parties agreed on the detailed budget and the modalities of implementation of the activities. These activities have been designed to complement the PIT (improvement of national capacities if irrigation with the irrigation school, support to agricultural investments in 3 subprojects). 5/14/2017 Page 2 of 10 Public Disclosure Copy Public Disclosure Copy The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Ecuador - Sustainable Family Farming Modernization Project (P151963) Risks Systematic Operations Risk-rating Tool 5/14/2017 Page 3 of 10 Public Disclosure Copy Public Disclosure Copy The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Ecuador - Sustainable Family Farming Modernization Project (P151963) Risk Category Rating at Approval Previous Rating Current Rating Political and Governance  Substantial  Substantial  Substantial Macroeconomic  Substantial  High  High Sector Strategies and Policies  Moderate  Moderate  Moderate Technical Design of Project or Program  Moderate  Moderate  Moderate Institutional Capacity for Implementation and Sustainability  Substantial  Substantial  Substantial Fiduciary  Substantial  High  Substantial Environment and Social  Substantial  Substantial  Substantial Stakeholders  Moderate  Moderate  Moderate Other  --  --  -- Overall  Substantial  Substantial  Substantial Results Project Development Objective Indicators PHINDPDOTBL  Increase of Annual Net Income on area benefited by project (Amount(USD), Custom) Baseline Actual (Previous) Actual (Current) End Target Value 500.00 500.00 500.00 800.00 Date 03-Feb-2015 06-Oct-2016 30-Mar-2017 30-Sep-2020 PHINDPDOTBL  Water users provided with new/improved irrigation and drainage services (number) (Number, Custom) Baseline Actual (Previous) Actual (Current) End Target Value 0.00 0.00 0.00 14,150.00 Date 03-Feb-2015 06-Oct-2016 30-Mar-2017 30-Sep-2020 Comments The first group of 10 subprojects representing an amount of $ 2.7 million for the World Bank and $ 0.2 million for AECID to benefit 417 families with the modernization of 766 ha.
