From July 1, 2019, the project disbursed (USD169 million) and project implementation continues to scale up. Under Component 1 - Erosion and Watershed Management Infrastructure Investments, a total of 115 new site designs have been approved (including 103 detailed engineering designs, five additional works, and seven concept notes for emergency sites). The land area reclaimed in the immediate gully site micro-catchments has increased from 1,722 hectares in November 2019 to 2,201 hectares today due to additional gully reclamation and afforestation programs in six States. Sixteen States now have improved erosion risk maps. Improved catchment management 6/29/2020 Page 1 of 9 Public Disclosure Copy The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (P124905) plans prepared for 31 sites across States (see https://newmap.gov.ng/index.php/2020-project-data-validation-report-communication-audio- visuals/). More than 165,000 people have received project-supported advisory support services in integrated land/water management practices, planning, and/or monitoring (42 percent female). Nearly 4,400 Project Affected Persons have been compensated across the initial seven Tier I States, and three Tier II states of Kogi, Delta and Akwa Ibom. More than 12,000 households have benefited from livelihood enhancement activities. In Component 2 - Erosion and Watershed Management Institutions and Information Service, good progress has been made to build institutional and human capacities in relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies. The project has installed 75 hydromet stations across the country which is disseminating valuable information to stakeholders. Two stormwater master plans have been completed for Onitsha in Anambra State, Aba and Abakaliki in Ebonyi State. The country's Environmental Impact Assessment process has been strengthened and streamlined. Under Component 3 - Climate Change Response, a significant achievement has been the second issuance of Nigeria’s second tranche of Sovereign Green Bond (for USD42 million) to finance climate change activities. Activities financed by the initial tranche of Green Bonds, such as solar plants in seven selected Federal Government Universities and a Renewable Energy Micro-Utility project in Torankawa community in Sokoto State, have been completed. In Component 4 - Project Management, the Management Information System (MIS) has been put back on an operational footing. With reference to the global COVID-19 pandemic, physical works in sites have largely ceased in line with the Federal and State directives of lockdown. In sites where works are ongoing, permissions have been granted by the State Governments and adequate safety measures adhered to. Dropped Actions:  Signing of contract/MoU between Antrix/ISRO and FPMU and draft MOU for NASRDA as implementing partner was dropped as a result of bilateral backlogs between the two countries including approval requirements.  World Bank and the Federal Ministry of Finance to engage with senior officials at EIB to resolve outstanding administrative/implementation issues was dropped pending further guidance from Management.  Presentation prepared for the proposed Integrated Landscape Management Project, including identifying counterpart agencies, multi- sectoral approach, and geographical focus. This activity was dropped because, while the client carried out the presentation in Q1, the multi-sectoral approach, and geographical focus will be determined during project preparation. mpaTable Multiphase Programmatic Approach (MPA) Status mpaTableBody Risks Systematic Operations Risk-rating Tool Risk Category Rating at Approval Previous Rating Current Rating Political and Governance -- Substantial Substantial Macroeconomic -- High Substantial Sector Strategies and Policies -- Moderate Moderate Technical Design of Project or Program -- Moderate Moderate Institutional Capacity for Implementation and -- Moderate Low Sustainability Fiduciary -- Substantial Moderate Environment and Social -- High Moderate Stakeholders -- Substantial Substantial Other -- -- Moderate Overall -- High Substantial 6/29/2020 Page 2 of 9 Public Disclosure Copy The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (P124905) Results PDO Indicators by Objectives / Outcomes To reduce vulnerability to soil erosion in targeted sub-watersheds.
