PPAF successfully organized a two-day International Research and Learning Conference. A number of completed and ongoing impact studies, carried out by Bank DECRG, and a number of other research organizations were presented. The findings were very encouraging and showed the contribution PPAF is making in mobilizing local communities for taking charge of their development, strengthening citizen-state relationship and addressing poverty at the grassroots. PPAF efforts to help local households in improving their means of livelihoods through common interest groups, Naukri ya Karobar (job or business) centres, production centres and youth centres and skills enhancement are showing positive results. A growing number of ultra-poor, men, women are able to increase their household income through asset transfers, employment, micro businesses and social enterprises. There are 202,880 beneficiaries of all programs under the Livelihoods component. A total of 1,055 persons with Public Disclosure Copy disabilities have been provided with assets to start small scale businesses. 3. The microfinance component has successfully deployed all allocated funds in the target districts with a 94% increase in client base. Encouraged by the success of index based crop and livestock insurance and Neya Jeevan micro insurance for urban poor, PPAF is gradually scaling up pilot innovations to reduce vulnerabilities of the poor. Value chain pilots have shown a lot of promise and are being replicated in Sindh and Southern Punjab. 69% of all loans have been served to women. Financial self-sufficiency is at 104%. 4. PPAF Board has approved the “spinning-off” of its microfinance operations thus paving the way for the creation of a new financial entity that would be able to access funds from the capital market and attract greater donor investments. The Bank is supportive of PPAF’s vision of eventually transforming the new for-profit-entity into a wholesale Microfinance Bank or a non-bank financial institution. 5. A total of 3,272 small infrastructure schemes are benefitting 263,278 households and 983,799 women. More than 372,796 people have access to improved sanitation facilities, 1,099,284 water users have new/improved irrigation and drainage services including 551,533 women. 474,528 people have access to improved water sources and 1,282 improved community water points have been constructed. PPAF should develop an institutional framework to ensure that PPAF research findings, experiences and learning are regularly incorporated into PPAF and POs strategies, program and interventions with active participation of community organizations. 2. PPAF should initiate preparation of a strategy for Agriculture-linked livelihoods (on-farm, off-farm) to help small farmers move out of subsistence agriculture and improve their market access as well as a plan to enhance PPAF capacity in agriculture-linked livelihoods. 3.
