Leaks repaired to date on the transmission main have resulted in initial water savings of 67 Kl/Day. Savings are lagging behind the 2014 target of 160 Kl/ day, but are likely to increase in the first half of 2015 as further leakages are fixed. Volume of potable water has increased from 25 kl/day to 29 kl/day due to a new rainwater harvesting system, and is likely to increase further in 2015 with installation of additional 6 systems. The groundwater abstraction systems have not yet been installed. To increase the country’s resilience in terms of coastal production, detailed designs, drawings and specifications have been completed and environmental licenses issued for nine high-risk coastal protection sites including for four to be constructed by the Bank-funded Roads Project and two by the Bank-funded Aviation Project. Mangrove planting (including maintenance advice and school education) has been conducted in five out of seven Outer Island sites to further increase coastal protection and resilience. After early delays, implementation momentum picked up in the second half of 2014. In view of project closing in about 21 months, there is need to expedite implementation to meet the project objectives by closing. The next implementation support mission is now scheduled for March 12-19, 2015.
