Resilient Rehabilitation of National Roads: Civil work contracts were completed in southern Rakhine. The next phase of civil works, also in southern Rakhine, started in November 2019 but was delayed due to COVID-19. The procurement of the Detailed Design and Supervision (DDS) Consultancy for Stage 2 works was completed in April 2020, and mobilization of national experts is expected in September 2020. In Chin State, works can only start once the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and associated compensation are 9/4/2020 Page 1 of 6 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Myanmar Flood and Landslide Emergency Recovery Project (P158194) completed. The draft ESIA was submitted on June 30, 2020, and will require further revisions. The European Space Agency (ESA) has completed a landslide risk analysis in Chin State, which will support the DDS in preparing a protected detailed design. Component 2. Resilient Rehabilitation of Rural Roads and Livelihood Support: Civil works in Ayeyarwady were completed. The next phase of works in Sagaing started in November 2019, albeit with limited delays due to COVID-19. These works will include a trial where plastic waste in asphalt mixes are used for pavement rehabilitation works once the COVID19 restrictions are lifted. The use of plastic prolongs the lifetime of the pavement while recycling plastic waste and reducing the cost of bitumen. Stage 1.3 works (road works on bridges in Ayeyarwady region) commenced in June 2020, and procurement for Stage 1.4 works (rural road construction in Magway region) are expected to start in September 2020. It is anticipated that the contract for the Detailed Design and Supervision (DDS) firm will be signed by October 2020. Component 3. Provision of Eligible Goods: The Immediate Response Mechanism (IRM) items were deployed to affected communities after the 2019 floods to provide relief and support. Extensive monitoring and reporting on the use of goods and items funded by the IRM has been conducted and will continue annually until the closing of the IRM source projects. Component 4: Project Management and Knowledge Support: The World Bank is supporting capacity building for both DOH and DRRD, and the Request for the Expression of Interest (REOI) for consultancies for technical assistance is expected to be published in August 2020.
