80814 World Bank Updates  MAY-JUNE 2013 ISSUE   President Kim Visited Romania. World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim visited Romania on May 9th – 10th, his first visit to the country since becoming president in July 2012. During his visit, Dr. Kim met with Romanian officials, including Prime Minister Victor Ponta and President Traian Băsescu, as well as business representatives, students, civil society, and Roma representatives to discuss how the World Bank Group can best continue supporting Romania’s inclusive growth and shared prosperity. Read more.  NEWS IN ROMANIA Modernization of the Fiscal Administration . The signing ceremony for the EUR70 million Revenue Administration Modernization Project for Romania, approved on April 26, 2013 by the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors, took place on May 18. The event was attended by Minister of Finance Daniel Chițoiu and Mamta Murthi, Country Director for Central Europe and the Baltic Countries Europe and Central Asia. The World Bank and the Romanian Ministry for Information Society hosted a workshop entitled “e-Government Transformation: Moving from Nice-to-Have to Must-Have� in Bucharest on May 30th, as part of the Bank’s regional work on the Smart Specialization and Digital Agenda. Experts and key practitioners from the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) field, as well as local attendees that work in ICT sectors across the Romanian Government, shared their experiences with e-Government. The workshop was designed as an exchange on strategies, frameworks, and approaches developed by the EU, and already successfully implemented in different countries. Ms. Elisabetta Capannelli is the new Country Manager for Romania, in the Europe and Central Asia Vice-Presidency. Based in the Romania Country Office, Ms. Capannelli will also serve as Country Manager for Hungary. Ms. Capannelli, an Italian national, joined the Bank in 1998 as an Economist in the Urban Development Department in the East Asia and Pacific Region. She has since held various positions, including Manager of the Program for Private Sector Participation in Infrastructure in the Middle East and North Africa Region, and Sector Leader for the Sustainable Development Department in the Europe and Central Asia Region. Between 2005 and 2008, Ms. Capannelli worked at the European Commission where she was, among other roles, a Cabinet Member of Commissioner Joaquin Almunia, then Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs. Ms. Capannelli was in charge of the Cabinet’s international portfolio. Ms. Capannelli’s appointment was effective as of May 7, 2013.
