See More +The fall issue of the annual review on the environment highlights the World Bank's work in FY98 in the promotion of sustainable use of resources. Each operational region and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) contributed with a look at their past year's work in global environment, accomplishments, lessons learned and future outlooks within their portfolios. A series of thematic reviews covers subjects on health costs issues resulting from urban air, and solid waste pollution; on the need to build on institutional capacity to attain environmental objectives; on the environmental consequences of water transfer schemes; on innovation in developing indicators to track environmental change. Reviews on global climate change; social development; protection for natural habitats; and, the importance of public-private partnerships in creating a consensus for achieving environmental goals are also subjects covered in this issue.
