Among important milestones achieved to date are: i) the establishment of functioning PIUs in the three federal member states (fully staffed, well-furnished and equipped); ii) finalizing the processing of more than 90 different procurement for project commencement activities. The first Backstopping Engineering contract has been awarded and site selection and engineering studies and designs are at an advanced stage in Puntland and are expected to support the initiation of works contracts on small water schemes in coming months. In the last six months, the project also conducted a series of capacity building training workshops which includes Procurement, Safeguards, Financial Management and Gender Based Violence Risk Management. All the PIU staff at the national and Federal Member state level have actively participated in these trainings. Moreover, the preparation of community engagement guidelines is at an advanced stage and are expected to be ready for use and rolled out to support the community planning and mobilization process by early 2021.
