Procurement for two of the major civil works activities funded under the project – extension of the BRT running way from Mile 12 to Ikorodu, and rehabilitation and upgrading of Akin Adesola Road – has been completed, and those contracts are now getting underway. The AFD co-financing for this project (USD$100 million) has also been approved, became effective as of March 28, 2012, and has begun disbursing as well. Minor changes to project activity descriptions and re-allocation of resources across project categories have required a restructuring, which is currently underway. Like the earlier restructuring, this will entail no changes to the Project Development Objective (PDO) or PDO indicators. The 13km Ikorodu BRT extension corridor is divided into three sections, all three of which have been awarded to the same contractor. Section 1 (Urban section: Mile 12 – Ajegunle) is IDA funded, and was awarded on October 5, 2012. Section 2 (Rural Section: Ajegunle – Majidun) and section 3 (Majidun – Ikorodu) are AFD funded, and were both awarded on July 19, 2012. Procurement for ancillary civil works contracts associated with the Ikorodu BRT extension project (construction of bus stations, footbridges, and terminals) will begin as soon as the restructuring is finalized. Procurement for the upgrading and rehabilitation of Wempco Road was delayed slightly because of minor changes to the detailed design that were needed to respond to new engineering conditions on-site. These designs and bidding documents are being finalized, and procurement will begin in April, 2013. Consequently, all project activities that are critical to achievement of the PDO and GEO, and as laid out in the Project Appraisal Document and revised in the Restructuring Paper, are now well underway. To date, about US$25.7 million (14.0 percent of IDA resources) have disbursed on the project, and an additional US$14.1 million in disbursements are anticipated by March 31, 2013.
