EQUIP II encompasses a SDR18.9 million IDA grant (US$30 million equivalent) in 2008 (closed in 2012), ARTF financing of US$158 million approved in 2009 and Additional Financing in the amount of US$250 million in 2012. Total project cost equals US$438 million In August 2015, the project was restructured and the closing date was extended from August 15, 2015 to December 31, 2016. The restructuring comprised: (i) a revision of the project key performance indicators to be more specific and to include most up to date data and information, and (ii) adjustments to project activities in order to reflect only those that could reasonably be completed by the newly revised Closing Date. As of November 25, 2015, EQUIP II disbursed approximately US$ 317 million (under the ARTF) (77 percent of grant proceeds). The project has made considerable progress in (i) the number of teachers trained, (ii) provision of inputs to schools, and (iii) establishment of information systems including collecting first hand data from schools and provincial directorates. PDO indicators such as direct project beneficiaries (enrollment of students segregated by gender) and establishing systems of learning assessment, show positive trends; however, the increase in girls’ enrollment and ratio-boy to girl remain below their target levels. Therefore, progress towards achieving the PDO is rated Moderately Satisfactory and overall Implementation Progress is rated Moderately Unsatisfactory due to the fact that a large number of schools that have already been funded under the project still remain incomplete (110 schools under stopped category and 524 school under incomplete).
