The development objectives of Second Support to the Education Sector Project for Nicaragua are to: (a) improve the students' retention rate in Primary Education Schools located in Participating Municipalities; and (b) strengthen Latinoamericano de Evaluación... See More + The development objectives of Second Support to the Education Sector Project for Nicaragua are to: (a) improve the students' retention rate in Primary Education Schools located in Participating Municipalities; and (b) strengthen Latinoamericano de Evaluación de la Calidad de la Educación (MINED)’s education management capacity. The additional financing of five million US dollars to (i) cover a financing gap due to the depreciation of the Special Drawing Rights (SDR) relative to the United States (US) dollar, and (ii) scale up two key activities, the refurbishing of schools and the implementation of in-service teacher training, for an additional year. With regards to the financing gap, the additional financing (AF )would allow the completion of (i) the development and implementation of an action plan to improve learning and teaching practices based on the outcomes of the student learning assessments; (ii) the development of planning and management systems and education statistics systems within MINED to better use financial and outcome information for decision-making; and (iii) the infrastructure inventory and pre-investment studies required for school construction. The closing date of the additional credit would be December 31, 2017 and the original credit would be extended from December 31, 2016 to December 31, 2017.  See Less -
