This paper investigates various aspects of urban concentration, particularly those relating to disproportionate migration of highly skilled labor into the larger cities. The findings on the production side concerning urban concentration suggest that the nature of external economies of scale in manufacturing cannot be used to explain the lack of activity specialization in metropolitan areas like greater Sao Paulo.
