Odisha Health and Education There is mixed progress on health and education in Odisha. Infant mortality in the state is high, but has seen improvement. Malnutrition is particularly high for the poor. There is very high open defecation, even among the rich. Most adults only have a few years of schooling. There are however gains in schooling for the young. Most of them attend public schools. Although learning outcomes are better in Odisha than in other states, they have stagnated in recent times.
