The overall implementation status of the project and progress towards achieving the PDO have been rated Moderately Satisfactory due to a global slowdown of the activities because of the COVID- 19 crisis that has entailed delays in the execution of A1 – Tataouine road works. An extension of the closing date of the project is likely to be required to achieve the PDO. To date, three road corridors - those of RN4, RN12, and RR133 - have been completed, 137.8 km (out of 185.2 km) of roads have been constructed and 8.7 km (out of 16 km) of roads have been rehabilitated. Approximately 40,800 person-months of employment have been created during construction and 373,564 project beneficiaries have derived direct benefits from the project to date. The recommendations on environmental and social safeguards are being implemented, particularly in the area of occupational health and safety, including road safety. Meanwhile, the actual nature of Project Affected Persons’ (PAP) compensations has yet to be finalized.
