The Project is comprised of two components: (i) Private Sector Internships and Training; and, (ii) Capacity Building and Policy Development. The Ministry of Devolution and Planning (MoDP) coordinates the project and implements the Capacity Building and Policy Development component. Delivery of the Private Sector Internship and Training Component is outsourced to the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA). The Private Sector Training and Internship Component has delivered four cycles of the six month internship program in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu. To date, 5,313 young people have completed the internship program. Tracer studies show the percent of young people in employment one month after completing the internship program is increasing from 33% in Page 1 of 4 The World Bank Report No: ISR13789 cycle one to 37% in cycle two and 40% in cycle three. These same studies show that six months after the completion of cycle one, 71% of interns were in wage or self-employment. Additionally, 13% of interns had returned for more education. Together, 84% of those completing cycle one of the internship program were employed or had determined that more education was needed to improve their employability. At the same time, the training of District Youth Officers (DYOs) to upgrade their skills has continued with 249 DYOs having been trained.
