Has the Project Development Objective been changed since Board Approval of the Project Objective? Yes Board Approved Revised Project Development Objective (If project is formally restructured)PHRPDODEL The PDO is to increase the provision of safe water supply and hygienic sanitation in selected rural areas of Bangladesh. Components Name Rural Piped Water Supply:(Cost $11.00 M) Rural Non-piped Water Supply:(Cost $18.21 M) Capacity Strengthening and Technical Assistance:(Cost $4.33 M) Project Management and Support:(Cost $3.34 M) Contingency for Disaster Risk Response Rural Sanitation:(Cost $4.16 M) Overall Ratings Name Previous Rating Current Rating 11/17/2017 Page 1 of 9 Public Disclosure Copy Public Disclosure Copy The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report BD Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project (P122269) Progress towards achievement of PDO  Moderately Satisfactory  Moderately Satisfactory Overall Implementation Progress (IP)  Moderately Satisfactory  Moderately Satisfactory Overall Risk Rating  Substantial  Substantial Implementation Status and Key Decisions The PDO is to increase the provision of safe water supply and hygienic sanitation in selected rural areas of Bangladesh. The project is implemented by the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) established under the LGD. The project area covers 383 Unions in 33 districts. In summary, BRWSSP, with an IDA Credit of US$41.04 million (now US$ 42.7 million), will directly benefit about 1.69 million people of 383 Unions in 33 districts. As of September 30, 2017, outreach of project beneficiaries is 1,341,058 out of the project target of 1,199,000. The end of project target has been achieved in terms of total project beneficiaries due to additional water points installation in target districts. The project is now processing further installation of 3,200 non-piped water points and 5,000 hygienic latrines from project savings. New house connections from piped water supply schemes have increased from 2,592 in March 2017 to 9,528 by end of September. The PDO is therefore achievable. As a result of overall progress of achievement, the PDO is maintained at “Moderately Satisfactory”. The project has made good progress since the previous mission in March 2017. 23 new piped water supply schemes have been commissioned and are supplying water to 8,753 households. Besides, additional 775 new house connections have resulted from rehabilitation of selected schemes which were constructed in previous Bank-funded project. Construction is on track for another 7 schemes which are expected to be fully completed within October. However, progress of construction in the last remaining 7 schemes has been very slow due to contractors’ poor performance. 17,275 non-piped water options have been installed against the target of 14,000 options. The target has been over achieved due to utilization of project savings. Under the sanitation infrastructure works, all of the targeted 50,000 hygienic latrines have been constructed already. The project so far has disbursed US$ 38.6 million (90.2 percent of the total credit amount) against a target of US$ 42.7 million and the cumulative expenditure incurred is US$ 34.25 million. As project draws to its closure in December 2017, DPHE should expedite completion of the remaining works of the rural piped water supply schemes together with facilitating and supporting local CBO committee, Union Parishad and Private Sponsors for community mobilization for expanding house connections. 11/17/2017 Page 2 of 9 Public Disclosure Copy Public Disclosure Copy The World Bank
