Disbursement rate has increased to 66% from 43% in September 2015, with 96% of the grant amount being committed at this time. Project is on track and expected to achieve its PDO with this continued momentum. On community-centered ecotourism in north Badia, key milestones have been met since the previous mission; construction of the Burqu’ ecolodge has commenced; and training of local cooperatives on skills necessary to develop products and services for the future Azraq/Shaumari – Burqu’ ecotourism corridor and for local markets is ongoing as per plan. On adaptive rangeland management and related investments in south Badia, works related to the two hafirs (water harvesting structures) have concluded. A recent rainfall event has made water available for both animal watering and fodder growing. Vegetation cover improvement operations have been carried out in the three rangeland reserves using biodiversity- sensitive in-situ seed collection techniques and improvement in vegetation cover is already visible. Since the September 2015 mission, training on the fabrication of accessories and crafts have been carried out and nine additional Community Based Organizations (CBOs) have been supported with alternative livelihoods’ grants. As a result, activities related to community training and livelihood support have already exceeded end-of-project targets. In order to ensure continued momentum of implementation of project activities, the time-bound actions were agreed upon with the executing entities and the PMU during of mission. 4/6/2016 Public Disclosure Copy Page 2 of 9 Public Disclosure Copy The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report JO-Badia Ecosystem and Livelihoods (P127861) 4/6/2016 Public Disclosure Copy Page 3 of 9 Public Disclosure Copy The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report JO-Badia Ecosystem and Livelihoods (P127861) Risks Systematic Operations Risk-rating Tool Risk Category Rating at Approval Previous Rating Current Rating Political and Governance  --  Moderate  Moderate Macroeconomic  --  Moderate  Moderate Sector Strategies and Policies  --  Low  Low Technical Design of Project or Program  --  Moderate  Moderate Institutional Capacity for Implementation and Sustainability  --  Low  Low Fiduciary  --  Moderate  Moderate Environment and Social  --  Moderate  Moderate Stakeholders  --  Moderate  Moderate Other  --  Substantial  Substantial Overall  --  Moderate  Moderate Results Global Environmental Objective Indicators PHINDGEOTBL  Amount of new ecotourism- related income to communities along the Al Azraq/Shaumari-Burqu’ corridor(Amount(USD), Custom) Baseline Actual (Previous) Actual (Current) End Target Value 0.00 174000.00 174000.00 570000.00 Date 17-May-2012 12-Sep-2015 03-Mar-2016 30-Jun-2017 Comments The RSCN 2015 Annual Beneficiaries Report will include income related information from the Azraq/Shaumari-Burqu corridor. Report which was due by March has been slightly delayed to April 2016. Actual during September 2015 was 174,000 and RSCN had estimated end 2015 income at 189,000. The YR4 target is expected to be achieved. 4/6/2016 Public Disclosure Copy Page 4 of 9 Public Disclosure Copy The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report JO-Badia Ecosystem and Livelihoods (P127861) PHINDGEOTBL  Direct project beneficiaries(Number, Core) Baseline Actual (Previous) Actual (Current) End Target Value 0.00 6394.00 17084.00 10720.00 Date 17-May-2012 12-Sep-2015 03-Mar-2016 30-Jun-2017 Comments The current number of beneficiaries is estimated to be 17,084. This increase is as a result of some target cooperatives under HFDJB-related activities having large number of members. As the hafirs and range reserves being established through NCARE become available to community use, the number of beneficiaries is expected to increase further, resulting in a significant increase by end of project. The vegetation cover is being improved through a fixed-term rest period, by replanting through reseeding with in-situ collected seeds, by replanting with seedlings of palatable species (only in selected areas), and by establishing water spreading structures (only in selected areas). Target achieved in YR2 with range reserve area identified and set at rest period as acknowledged in the grazing agreements with the communities. The area is surveyed, with monitoring of vegetation phenology; biodiversity assessments, and biomass productivity also controlled. In YR3 incremental biomass productivity is evident even before replanting (due to observation of rest period); replanting with seedlings in selected area is complete by mid-YR3. Vegetation composition improvement continues through seed in-situ collection of endemic species and seeding at due time; this operation is retained as a maintenance operation of the range reserves, which will continue also beyond project life. Sustainable grazing management plans are being adopted with first grazing operations at end of YR3. Operations were carried out using multiple techniques—by direct seeding of in-situ collected seed using selected species over 1,100 dunums; and by planting of 40,000 Atriplex seedlings in ad hoc pit holes upstream the completed water spreading structures covering about 1,200 dunums. This methodology (use of in situ collected seed for seeding and vegetation recovery), is being applied for the first time ever in Jordan. Data and specimen collection increase national Germplasm Databank value and global knowledge sharing. In fact, endemic species indicate that target will be achieved in YR3; follow-up sustainable grazing and range management practices will ensure that target is confirmed also for YR4. The rest period in the range reserves is reported by the local community as having a significant impact on plant recovery. Some have reported seeing flora in the reserves that had disappeared for at least 20 years. 4/6/2016 Public Disclosure Copy Page 7 of 9 Public Disclosure Copy The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report JO-Badia Ecosystem and Livelihoods (P127861) PHINDIRITBL  Number of men and women members in at least 12 cooperatives benefitting from alternative livelihoods activities in Al Jafr and Al-Husseinieh (Number, Custom) Baseline Actual (Previous) Actual (Current) End Target Value 0.00 915.00 1371.00 1000.00 Date 17-May-2012 12-Sep-2015 03-Mar-2016 30-Jun-2017 Comments YR2, YR3 and YR4 targets exceeded as of February 2016 (YR2 expected 200, actual 654; YR3 expected 800, actual 1052, YR4 expected 1000, actual 1371).
