The progress observed to date in both indicator performance and Component progress indicates that the Project remains on track to meet its objectives.  PDO Indicator 1: Number of participating primary and secondary education teachers with improved teaching practices. The target for 2020 of 1,641 teachers with improved teaching practices was exceeded, with preliminary data indicating that a total of 1,912 teachers have shown improvement.  PDO Indicator 2: Percentage of preschool teachers with desired teaching practices. Collection of baseline data for this indicator faced delays due to adjustments in the classroom observation instrument. The baseline data collection carried out in September 2019 established the baseline at 54 percent, exceeding the end-of-Project target of 30 percent. 12/23/2020 Page 1 of 10 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Alliance for Education Quality Project (P161029)  PDO Indicator 3: Percentage of Project-supported schools meeting minimal physical quality standards. A total of 21 works were completed by the end of 2020, and an additional 9 works are in already in progress (4 of which are in indigenous territories.) Component 1: Improving Teacher Practices for Participating Teachers in Preschool, Primary and Secondary Education Nationwide. Overall, the teacher professional development programs for the preschool, primary and secondary levels have operated effectively, and the in- service training for preschool teachers and community educators has provided relevant and context-specific evidence on how to better adjust and implement the training. Irregular student attendance since April 2020, however, has made it difficult to carry out classroom activities for in-service training for preschool and primary teachers, including trainers’ individual visits and practical application of the training in the classroom. Within this context, MINED has substituted face-to-face teacher training activities with virtual sessions, particularly for the In-service Training for Primary School Teachers. The second and third mentoring visits in the classrooms for primary school teachers (DLI 7, USD 0,5 million) took place in October and November 2020, respectively. Due to the context generated by the pandemic, the second mentoring visit was adjusted and the instrument applied during the visits was a Socioemotional Guide to provide better instruments for teachers to cope with the new challenges. Results for these two visits are being prepared and will be available at the beginning of 2021. National student learning assessments, have been reprogrammed to October 2021, requiring the postponement of the expected socialization of these assessments to the first semester of 2022. Component 2: Improving the Physical Learning Conditions in Targeted Schools. Of the 41 planned interventions, 13 infrastructure works have been completed, 13 are ongoing (including 4 school centers with indigenous and Afro-descendant populations in the North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region), 4 are in the bid evaluation stage, 8 are undergoing procurement processes, and 3 are in the design stage. Component 3: Supporting Project Management and Monitoring. To date, MINED’s Procurement and Finance Departments have been strengthened with trained and experienced staff.
