This paper explains the development history and present state of combined-cycle power generation technology. The relative economics of gas-fueled combined-cycle plants and other fossil fuel power plant alternatives are reviewed and the paper concludes that gas-fueled combined-cycle is the least cost base-load power generation alternative for both large and small systems with fuel prices in the order of gas at $2.50/MMBTU, coal at $40/ton, residual oil at $15/bb1 and distillate oil at $25/bb1. ... See More +
