Some of the negative impacts include: (i) occupational health and safety issues; (ii) community health and safety issues; (iii) waste water disposal and solid waste accumulation; (iv) land contamination and sediments runoff; (v) endangering biological life; and (vi) possible damage to objects of historical or cultural value. Some of the mitigation measures include: (i) avoid manual transfer of big quantities of materials and heavy equipment; (ii) provide surveillance and active screening, immunization, and treatment of workers and neighboring communities; (iii) monitor groundwater quality that could exist close to the working areas to ensure compliance; (iv) segregate or divert clean runoffs from water containing high solids content; (v) ensure full adherence to the zero-discharge criterion; (vi) suspend excavation work and promptly communicate any chance finds to the responsible authorities.  Exibir menos -
