Leakage detection and repair of transmission mains and reservoirs, resulting in 269 cu.m per day of potable water saved to-date, substantially exceeding the Project target of 190 cu.m per day saved and enabling conservation of the limited underground water sources (the Buota and Bonriki water reserves/fresh water lenses). This includes the repair of all leaks along 26.8km of the 30-km long water transmission main (from Betio to Bonriki), with remaining limited leaks along the Dai Nippon causeway to be eliminated when the Kiribati Road Rehabilitation Project (KRRP) contractor completes the new pipe connection across the causeway bridge. 2. Two completed (of 5 planned) shoreline protection works on South Tarawa, combined with the mangrove planting activity that has been completed in 9 outer islands, have resulted in 1.29 kilometers of coastline protected, already exceeding the Project target of 1.2 kilometers. 3. Completed rainwater harvesting systems in Banaba, and six systems in four villages in North Tarawa, are providing 4.7 cu.m. of potable water per day (toward the Project target of 5.1 cu.m. per day above the baseline). 4. Civil works for the North Tarawa village-based groundwater abstraction systems have commenced. These systems will provide 16 cu. m of potable water per day (to fully meet the Project target by the estimated completion date on 23 January 2017). The rain-water harvesting works in North Buota will add a further 0.8 cu. m per day (estimated completion in November 2016). Resilience Fund. Over 300 applications received from community groups (outer islands in the Gilberts Group and South Tarawa) were evaluated for the Resilience Fund (RF) for small community-based resilience strengthening grants. Thirty-five grants have been awarded within the funds available and implementation is ongoing. Long-term Coastal Security Strategy. The Government of Kiribati has committed to the development of a long-term Coastal Security Strategy, with the vision of safe and secure human settlement on all atolls. Discussions led by OB with MELAD, the Ministry of Fisheries, and MPWU recognized that the objectives of the ongoing Coastal Policy Advisor consultancy -- to support the Government of Kiribati to prepare and adopt a coastal management framework and policy for better managing the use of the country’s coastal areas – are closely aligned with the development of a long-term Coastal Security Strategy. Building on this, support will be provided through KAP to the OB and other stakeholder agencies to develop the Long-Term Coastal Security Strategy. OB’s Office building extension. Following receipt of the Inception Report in May 2016 and discussions with OB on the design brief, the architectural design firm is finalizing the design drawings and bidding documents. The same firm will assist the OB with the tender for the civil works contract, which is expected to be awarded on 15 November 2016, with expected construction completion date on 15 July 2017. 9/22/2016 Public Disclosure Copy Page 2 of 9 Public Disclosure Copy The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Kiribati Adaptation Phase III (LDCF) (P112615) Risks Systematic Operations Risk-rating Tool Risk Category Rating at Approval Previous Rating Current Rating Political and Governance  --  Moderate  Moderate Macroeconomic  --  Moderate  Moderate Sector Strategies and Policies  --  Low  Low Technical Design of Project or Program  --  Substantial  Substantial Institutional Capacity for Implementation and Sustainability  --  High  High Fiduciary  --  Substantial  Substantial Environment and Social  --  Substantial  Substantial Stakeholders  --  Moderate  Moderate Other  --  --  -- Overall  --  High  High Results Global Environmental Objective Indicators 9/22/2016 Public Disclosure Copy Page 3 of 9 Public Disclosure Copy The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Kiribati Adaptation Phase III (LDCF) (P112615) PHINDGEOTBL  Volume of potable water saved through reduced leakage (kiloliters per day)(Text, Custom) Baseline Actual (Previous) Actual (Current) End Target Value N/A 266 269 190 Date 23-Aug-2011 14-Mar-2016 16-Aug-2016 28-Feb-2018 Comments This indicator will continue to improve as programmed activities progress.
