The project development objective (PDO) is to expand the area under legal protection and improve management of Protected Areas, and increase the area under restoration and sustainable management in the Brazilian Amazon. It comprises four components: (i) Amazon protected areas system, (ii) Integrated landscape management, (iii) policies for protection and recovery of native vegetation, and (iv) Capacity Building, Cooperation, and Project Coordination. 9/3/2019 Page 1 of 6 Public Disclosure Copy The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Amazon Sustainable Landscapes Project (P158000) Project was declared effective on June 12, 2018. Under GEF 7, a second phase of the Amazon Sustainable Landscapes Program (ASL 2) with seven participating countries and USD 88.31 million in financing was approved by the GEF Council in June 2019 and is currently under preparation. As part of ASL2, the Government of Brazil has endorsed and launched preparation of a second phase of its national ASL project, which will bring an additional USD 19.28 million of GEF financing to the project, scaling up and expanding the geographical scope of the project.
