The Department of Environment (DOE) has made substantial progress in air quality monitoring. Six new Continuous Air Monitoring Stations (CAMS) have been installed in 2012 and all 11 CAMS are now functioning and producing real time data. The CAMS in Chittagong was inaugurated by the Honorable Minister of Environment and Forests in January 2013. Another major development is the publication of Monthly Air Quality Monitoring Reports on CASE website. More than 1,300 on-the-road vehicles have been tested in 2012 and the results were also published on the CASE website. The revision of Vehicular Emission Standards has been prepared. All analytical studies on air quality are progressing well and an Page 1 of 5 The World Bank Report No: ISR9998 Air Quality Index (AQI) has been prepared and will soon be made public. 20.5 km of sidewalks have been reconstructed or repaired with drains and road improvements in Mohammedpur area. In Khilgaon and Tejgaon areas, progress is visible. In all cases, the works seem to have a considerable positive impact in the neighborhoods, and a preliminary analysis shows that sidewalks are being extensively used. 5 Foot-Over-Bridges Public Disclosure Copy (FOBs) have been completed, and post-implementation social assessment shows that up to 75% of pedestrians that were previously crossing at grade are now using the FOBs. Another 18 FOBs are under construction, among which 8 are under fabrication and 3 close to completion.
