The project closes on June 30, 2014, almost ten years after effectiveness date, June 15, 2004. It has had three extensions and two additional financings bringing the total credit amount to US$90 million. Almost all of the activities planned under the originalcredit as well as the two additional financings have been completed and 97 percent disbursed. 2. Some of the notable project achievements include the rehabilitation of the previously treacherous 35 km escarpment section of the trunk road between Lusaka and Chirundu. On Page 1 of 7 The World Bank Report No: ISR14109 institutional strengthening the country has implemented road sector reforms successfully. As a result, Zambia is currently able to finance close to 90% of the routine road maintenance needs, and this estimate is rising. Government's uptake of this support has been demonstrated in that Zambia recently took the decision to fund two kilometers of the Lusaka - Chirundu road (about US$2.0 million) out of its own resources.
