Insecurity and barricades in the streets have blocked DINEPA staff from going to their offices and hampered the project's activities. Many of the works contracts that were progressing well stopped and the situation of insecurity prevents the start of new activities and the mobilization of companies on the construction sites. During the past weeks, the situation has improved, but the shortage of fuel, as well as the security, may further impact on progress. Despite the situation, construction work on sanitary blocks in the South’ schools are progressing. On the sanitation side, construction 12/19/2019 Page 1 of 10 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report HT Sustainable Rural and Small Towns Water and Sanitation Project (P148970) works on sanitary blocks in 12 public schools and public high schools of the South department are progressing. Three new civil works contracts for sanitary blocks in the schools of the Grand'Anse department are ready to be launched. UNOPS is conducting an organizational diagnosis and internal procedures of DINEPA and is providing technical assistance in procurement. An emergency committee has been established to finalize the launch of the pending works contracts.
