The objective of the Southern Africa Trade and Transport Facilitation Program is to facilitate the movement of goods and people along the north-south corridor (NSC), whilst supporting improvement in the services for Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) and road safety. Has the Project Development Objective been changed since Board Approval of the Project Objective? The one-year Defect Notification Period (DNP) runs through November 2019. 5/9/2019 Page 1 of 7 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Southern Africa Trade and Transport Facilitation Project (P120370) A comprehensive Independent Stage 3 Road Safety Audit (RSA) of the entire Mafinga -Igawa Road section (in a manner consistent with the Directive of the European Union 2008/96/EC on Road Safety Infrastructure). The safety audit reports provide recommendations for improvement of road safety along the project corridor and some key recommendations requiring physical works will be implemented by the contractors on site (with financing from the credit) prior to the expiry of the Defect Notification Period. Remaining smaller civil works (border crossings and one-stop border posts; accident blackspot improvements and renovation of medical facilities) are mostly in execution or about to start. The project is supporting a pilot project on Emergency Medical Services (EMS) with the objective of providing trauma care to the victims of the road accidents along the project area. This pilot project covers a section on Dar es Salaam Corridor from Dar es Salaam to Ruaha Mbuyuni (Morogoro/Iringa Regions border). Project activities are progressing satisfactorily. The MoFP submitted a request to extend and restructure the project and in response the Bank extended the closing date to June 30, 2020.
