Has the Project Development Objective been changed since Board Approval of the Project? Yes No Component(s) Component Name Component Cost Multimodal Transport Corridor Investments 147.10 Investments in Small Ferry Boat Stages 4.60 Institutional Support 5.10 Overall Ratings Previous Rating Current Rating Public Disclosure Copy Progress towards achievement of PDO Moderately Satisfactory Moderately Satisfactory Overall Implementation Progress (IP) Moderately Satisfactory Moderately Satisfactory Overall Risk Rating Moderate Moderate Implementation Status Overview Due to the on-going nature of all of the project's civil works, the project's development and intermediate outcomes are not yet observable, but decisive progress towards further advancement of these works has been attained since the last Implementation Status and Results (ISR) report. With regard to new civil works contracts, over the past six months all remaining civil works contracts under the project have been awarded, with a combined value of nearly US$90 million. These works are for improvements to selected sharp-bend areas of National Waterway Corridor 3 and improvements to the Lach Giang estuary, the single largest piece of infrastructure being upgraded under the project. Both these contracts, when completed, will result in the ability of target waterways to receive larger vessels, resulting in lower transport costs and emissions of greenhouse gases and local pollutants per Page 1 of 5 The World Bank Report No: ISR13590 ton-kilometer, faster travel times, and safer navigation. With regard to existing contracts, civil works along National Waterway Corridor 1, which are expected to reduce barge travel times and transport costs between Quang Ninh and Viet Tri (including, crucially, Hanoi), are approximately 70% complete today (compared to 40% at the last ISR report). The only contracts yet to be awarded under the project are for consulting services (including key technical assistance to the Vietnam Inland Waterway Administration (VIWA) to better manage waterway maintenance and the provision of small-scale river ports, landing stages, and ferry boat stages) and small scale goods (e.g., navigational aid equipment). Both these Public Disclosure Copy activities are expected to improve institutional capacity and build on the civil works program, and are expected to be awarded within the next 6 to 8 months.
